The Faculty of Economics is one of the leading academic divisions at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. It was founded in 1944, however the Faculty's history dates back to1842 when the Department of Political Economics and Statistics had been established at Kyiv Imperial University of Saint Volodymyr. The first Head of the Department was professor Ivan Vasylyovych Vernadsky. His successor was Mykola Hrystyianovych Bunhe (Nikolai Karl Paul von Bunhe) – an outstanding Ukrainian economist, educational manager and public figure – the Rector of the University.
The Faculty is proud of its more than 5,000 graduates of the highest qualification in the field of economy, 600 PhD holders (Candidate of Sciences) and over 80 Doctors of Economics. Among the Faculty's alumni are the first President of independent Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, advisors to the President of Ukraine, heads of the National Bank of Ukraine, members of the Ukrainian Parliament (Verkhovna Rada), ministers of the government, CEOs of numerous national corporations, companies, enterprises, organizations, and teachers at various universities and educational establishments of Ukraine.

Structure of the Faculty
The Faculty takes pride in its academic staff with two Members and two Correspondent Members of the National Academies of Sciences, 38 professors, 102 Associate Professors, and other committed, creative and professional academic workers with great expertise in economic activities, finance and research who contribute in high quality standards of teaching and research. The academic programmes are permanently upgraded in line with the latest scientific developments, business requirements and Bologna innovative approaches to teaching, which is supported by a new generation of textbooks written by the Faculty staff as well as by special courses offered in foreign languages, interactive learning technologies, and integration of education and practical training at various companies and organizations. The Faculty operates a modular/credit system compatible with the one practiced elsewhere in Europe (ECTS) for the delivery and assessment of degree programmes. To assure quality in teaching, the Faculty contributed largely to development and implementation of the nationally recognized programs:
The Economic Faculty cooperates with Lomonosov Moscow State University and Saint Petersburg State University (Russia), University of Bremen, University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (Germany), Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic), Jagiellonian University in Krakow and Warsaw Higher School of Management (Poland), Sofia University "Saint Kliment Ohridski" (Bulgaria), Stockholm University (Sweden), University of Sunderland (UK) and other universities of Finland, Greece and Switzerland. The Faculty staff and students take advantage of current opportunities to participate in various forms of academic mobility. The Faculty researchers take part in Tempus programmes of the European Union, various projects run in cooperation with the European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research (ESOMAR), Consortium for Enhancement of Ukrainian Management Education (CEUME), and the US National Council for Economic Education (CEE). |
